Frankly, every hypoallergenic dog is good with children. Hypoallergenic breeds don’t include fight dogs and other breeds which may harm your child. If your child has asthma or any type of allergy, you should think not about which breed would be good for your boy or girl, but which of them would be acceptable, so the child doesn’t suffer from sharing the same room or house with the pet.
If your child has a severe form of asthma, you should think twice before bringing a dog to your house. In this case it’s better to wait until he (or she) outgrows the illness and then consider to buy a hypoallergenic dog. As for the best breeds for asthmatic children, it’s Bichon Frise, Poodles, and Yorkshires you should give priority to. Another option is to find Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless dog). It has absolutely no hair and is a loyal companion. But there’s a downside: hairless dogs require a lot of skin care.
You should also pay attention to mixed breeds like Labradoodle (or any other mixed breed with a poodle being one of the parents), but you must remember that these breeds are not 100% hypoallergenic — you will get only half of allergy protection.
If your child suffers from allergy to dog’s saliva or anything other than dander and hair, buying a dog is not the option for you. For such a child every dog will be allergenic.
As a whole, you should be aware that you may have to try several hypoallergenic breeds before you find the dog which will never cause allergy reactions to your child. The following list of breeds will help you to make the final choice: Poodle, Bichon Frise, Chihuahua, Irish Terrier, Portuguese Water Dog, Chinese Crested, Schnauzer, Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, Coton de Tulear, West Highland White Terrier, Bedlington Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier.
